What are the pretightening methods of rolling bearings

Rolling bearing preload methods are divided into radial preload method and axial preload method:
 
1. Radial preload method

Radial jacking method is mostly used in tapered bore bearings bearing radial load, a typical example is double row precision short cylindrical roller bearings. The radial negative clearance is obtained by adjusting the axial position of the bearing relative to the conical journal with the nut so that the inner ring has an appropriate amount of expansion. This method is widely used in machine tool spindles and jet engines.

 

2. Axial preload method

The axial preloading method can be divided into two kinds: positioning preloading and constant pressure preloading.

 

In positioning preload, the appropriate preload can be obtained by adjusting the size of bushing or gasket; Suitable pretightening can also be adjusted by measuring or controlling the starting friction torque; It can also be directly used to achieve the purpose of preloading by pre-adjusting the preload of pairs of double bearings, at this time, users generally do not need to adjust again. In short, all through the axial pretightening of the bearing, the use of its relative position will not change.

 

Constant pressure preload is to use spiral spring, disc spring and so on to make bearings get appropriate preload method. The rigidity of the preload spring is generally much smaller than the rigidity of the bearing, so the relative position of the constant pressure preload bearing will change in use, but the preload is roughly the same.

The comparison between positioning preloading and constant pressure preloading is as follows: 

(1) When the preload is equal, the effect of positioning preload on the increase of bearing rigidity is great, and the effect of rigidity change on bearing load is much smaller when positioning preload.

(2) In the use of positioning preload, due to the influence of the axial length difference caused by the temperature difference between the shaft and the bearing seat, the radial expansion caused by the temperature difference between the inner and outer ring and the displacement caused by the load, the preload will change; In the use of constant pressure preload, the change of preload can be ignored.
