With the strengthening of global environmental regulations, stringent vehicle regulations have been established in various countries in order to reduce CO2 emissions. With this trend, vehicle electrification has accelerated and hybrid vehicles, including plug-in, pure electric and fuel cell vehicles, are actively developing. The global passenger vehicle production forecast is shown in Figure 1. 48 V light hybrid vehicles (hereafter 48 V MHEV) are expected to grow to 25% of total vehicle production by 2025 due to simple electric power handling and low implementation costs. It is known that fuel efficiency can be improved by up to about 15% even if fuel costs have a significant impact on implementation costs. In terms of low fuel consumption, implementation of e.g. electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, etc. is expected to be slower due to the announcement of infrastructure development, battery supply and cost issues. 48 V MHEVs are expected to be able to improve fuel efficiency faster, in response to the recent increasing regulatory requirements for fuel efficiency.
