Not all damaged bearings can be repaired, but for each damaged bearing, before considering repair or replacement of new bearings, the cause and degree of damage must be assessed to avoid or reduce re-damage. There are many reasons for bearing damage, such as improper installation, dirt invasion or water invasion, which are the common causes of early bearing damage.

The following is the analysis of common damage causes of some large-size bearings and the corresponding preventive measures to prolong the bearing life:

1. Improper operation

Improper installation, operation or disassembly may cause deformation or defect of cage Precautions: Use proper operation, installation and disassembly tools.

2.Insufficient lubrication

Inadequate or improper lubrication may lead to component abrasion or serious bearing deformation preventive measures: improve the lubrication system, regularly and appropriately supplement or replace lubricants.

3. Rust and corrosion

Contact with water may cause corrosion and rust of bearing elements. Corrosion damage after the bearing at work may lead to spalling preventive measures: check the seal regularly to ensure good sealing effect, the correct storage of the bearing.

4. The current

Grooves or nicks may occur when the bearing is energized during rotation. Improper grounding of electrical operation can lead to minor burns when the bearing is stationary precautions: Reduce or avoid current through the bearing by proper grounding connections before welding parts other than the bearing.

5. External materials

Abrasive particle pollution and debris intrusion may lead to wear, abrasion and depression of bearing working face Preventive measures: remove invasive particles and debris, replace lubricants, check the sealing system.

6.Eccentric 

Eccentricity, tilt, or excessive load may result in geometric stress concentration or surface spalling preventive measures: precision machining of bearing pedestal and shoulder.
