Proper maintenance of bearings
Correct maintenance and maintenance will avoid many bearing failures and costly downtime. There are common tips for the use and maintenance of bearings, and the implementation of standardized processes will bring longer life to the bearings you run.
1.Avoid temperature beyond the bearing range
If steel bearings are heated beyond their design limits, they will permanently deform or soften the bearing material, resulting in reduced carrying capacity and equipment failure.
Suitable temperature is the first step in the normal operation of bearings. Note discoloration of rings, rolling elements and cages during regular maintenance, as this may indicate bearing overheating. This may be caused by excessive operating temperature and improper lubrication, so it needs to be brought to your attention quickly.
2.Prevent corrosion if possible
Corrosion is the natural enemy of bearings.
Over time, if the bearing is exposed to moisture, corrosion will occur. This can lead to rusting into the raceway and ultimately to premature bearing and equipment failure. Wearing gloves will ensure that sweat or other fluids do not enter the bearings.
When designing specifically for corrosive environments, the selection of appropriate bearings is key. For example, in Marine or chemical environments, choosing 316 stainless steel bearings with seals is often a good choice.
3.Choose alternative brands carefully
If the bearing does reach the end of its service life, replace the bearing with one of the same or higher quality as the original bearing.
In the long run, low-quality alternative bearing brands are likely to cause machine failure and damage, and may lead to more expensive equipment failures.
4.Real-time monitoring
Bearings rarely fail without any warning signals.
Too much noise, vibration or a rise in temperature can be signs of deeper problems.
If there is any abnormal operation of bearings, closer monitoring should be carried out.
