Method for adjusting clearance of tapered roller bearings

After installation, the clearance of non-adjustable bearings is mainly affected by mating, so the following is mainly introduced the clearance adjustment method of adjustable bearings, taking tapered roller bearings with wide applicable speed range and able to bear both axial and radial forces as an example.
 
1.Push the rafah

The pushing method is generally used for positive clearance, and the axial clearance between the bearing raceway and the rolling body can be measured. Apply a force to the shaft or bearing seat in one direction, push the dial indicator to zero for reference, and then apply a force in the opposite direction, push the dial indicator after the rotation is the value of the gap. Oscillate the rotating roller slowly during measurement to ensure that the roller is correctly positioned on the inner rim.

 
2.Acro-SetTM
The theoretical basis of ACro-set is Hooke’s law, which states that the shape variable of an elastic deformable object is proportional to the external force. The spacer or spacer clearance is measured to obtain the correct clearance under a certain mounting force. Read the correct spacer or spacer dimensions as required directly from a diagram created during the prior test.
 

3.Torque-SetTM

Torque-set is based on the principle that, under preload, the rotational Torque of the bearing increases as a function of the preload of the bearing. The experimental results show that for a group of new bearings of the same type, under the condition of given preload, the rotational torque of bearings changes very little. Therefore, rotational moments can be used to estimate precompactness.

The principle of this method is to establish a conversion relation between the rotational torque and preload of bearings, which needs to be obtained by testing. Then during the actual installation, the thickness of the gasket can be determined by measuring the rotational torque

 

4.Projecta-SetTM

Projecta-set projects or converts gasket or spacer thickness that cannot be measured directly to an easily measurable location. A special gauge sleeve and ring are used to achieve this effect. Projecta-set has the advantage of being difficult and time-consuming to remove and adjust bearings when both the inner and outer rings of the bearing are tight fit conditions.

This method requires separate gauges for different bearing series, which is relatively high cost. But when installed in large quantities, the average cost per installation is good. Especially in the field of automation, it has proved to be very effective.

 

5.Set-RightTM

Set-right uses probability methods and controls dimensional tolerances for relevant parts to ensure that 99.73% of bearing clearance falls within acceptable limits for all assemblies. This is a mathematical prediction based on a combination of random variables, namely bearing tolerances and the tolerances of mounting components such as shafts and housings.

This method does not require installation and adjustment, and the application components can be simply assembled and clamped, so the mass installation is very convenient. However, you end up with a clearance range (about 0.25mm), and in some applications set-right needs to be decided at the design stage. Set-right’s approach has been used successfully for many years in both industry and automotive.

 

Clearance is not only an important index of rolling bearing, but also an important parameter in bearing application. Different bearing clearance will have different impacts on the operation of machinery, among which the most obvious impacts are vibration and noise, and bearing heating and abnormal damage. Should press the regulation to choose so, cannot use wrong.
